"Deb's interview on Karlyn's channel in Dec 2020 got me wondering if my drive to save the world came from school. Would make sense - replacing civics, history, econ, etc with "social studies" and inserting environmental panic and anti-capitalism into the science courses would have done it.
I remember intense guilt and anxiety over everything I did being in service to changing/saving the world/making a difference. That guilt and anxiety drove almost every decision I made between 1999-2015.
I had a hard time choosing a major and wasted a lot of time in college. I wanted a major that:
- would let me make "a big impact"
- wasn't "selfish"
- would let me help the most people
- would let me "really solve" problems
I had a lot of grandiose ideas, and i didn't want to do things for the money or sell out. I changed my major at least 4 times (Theater design, Psychology, Micro/Molecular Bio, did a ...
