We are constantly told what "heroes" teachers are, and it kind of nauseates me to be honest. I don't believe in fetishizing an entire profession (unless it's something like the linemen who get the power back on right away after a Cat 3 Hurricane, or people who run INTO burning buildings to get people and pets OUT of them alive), but when it's so undeserved, it really chaps my hide!
This year more than ever, the "Heroes work here" signs outside empty schools (and nearly empty hospitals in some cases) have made me borderline homicidal. When I see Zoom recordings of teachers bullying kids, I have to be physically restrained. So if I'm going to call a teacher a "hero," you know it's with good reason!
Paul Rossi is a hero. I'd like to tell all teachers "Be like Paul," but it would be a waste of my time because are too busy attacking him and trying to get him "canceled" from ever teaching again.
