I am recruiting participants for a FAUX/MOCK CRT Curriculum Webinar/Q&A during which I plan to ask the questions parents could ask, but don't, but in a funny way -- to make it obvious how absurd and obscene CRT is through the questions and my reactions.
If you want to participate, disguises are fine if you don't want to be easily recognizable. We will use fake names.
First, I decided it should be a Q&A to go over new DEI curriculum in use by a fictitious public school. I will play the role of a parent who's not totally clueless about education issues, possibly even play "myself" (ex-teacher, but out of it for over a decade), at a meeting with other parents to watch a "webinar" about the new curriculum, and to ask questions.
Roles:
DEI Director of the District
Principal of fictitious school
Option 1:
Parent #1 Me, Cis White Female
Parent#2 African American
Parent#4 - Asian
Parent#5 - Hispanic
Parent #6 - Cis White Male
I think the reactions we could come up with to the presentation would be funny if we had "representation." We could work in looks of indignation when things like "white culture" or "anti-racist math" are brought up, and even have the parent who's AA play someone with a PhD in Nuclear Physics, or Math! We could have the Asian parent be a local landlord who hasn't been able to collect rent in a year, and have the DEI director twist herself in knots trying to decide if the Asian parent is a victim or oppressor. We could have a Latino/Latina parent who refuses to be addressed as Latinx, and explains how it's cultural appropriation to try to do so -- to the DEI Director--and the White Cis Male could ask "So does this mean I win, I'm superior to all of you?" At the end of the oppression matrix exercise.
Option 2
Parent #1 Me
Parents #2, 3, etc. who are all or mostly white
We listen attentively, I do all or 90% of the talking, but we all agree by the end the best thing for all the kids, for society as a whole, is if we leave the school to protect non-white kids from our whiteness.
Schedule/Plan:
Brainstorming Session: March 31st 7:30 EASTERN (usual Zoom meeting time)
This will help me know who will be there so I can write the script for everyone's parts.
Script Due: April 6 (I am writing)
Read-Through: April 7 or 11, whichever works better, same time, over Zoom.
Record: April 14 - Time TBD, but likely evening EASTERN
Premier: April 16 - Time TBD, but likely evening EASTERN
@karlyn is going to bring slides we can use.
Time commitment, not counting tomorrow's brainstorming, would be couple of hours, one for read through and edit script to suit individuals, one to record the actual video.
If you need a membership code for this one meeting, note in the comments. Zoom meeting in the lower right of the sidebar on a desktop.
Thanks in advance for your help!😊

Deb: Am I really a racist?
Taylor Swift: Is she a DNC Op?
