I can't stress this enough: It is inappropriate to burden small children with the woes of the world. It serves adult needs. No child "needs" to know this stuff. Even kids living in war-torn nations don't BENEFIT from the details of why the people are fighting. What they need to know is the adults in their lives are handling it as best they can, and trying to keep them safe.
Safety and security is BIG for kids. Children with attachment issues grow up to be adults with attachment issues, and adults with attachment issues (translation: DEEP insecurity) are who we are dealing with right now. They are unhealthy, and at their worst, abusive.
