I cannot believe states are locking down again!
If the lockdowns worked, why do we need another? If they didn't work, why are we doing it again? Lockdowns don't stop viruses, they just stop lives from functioning properly, children's lives the most.
I have three teenagers, and they are suffering mightily. Any of you have kids struggling to cope? I keep thinking "They are only this age ONCE! This is CRUEL!"
Two years in a row (at 10 and 11, respectively), I was trapped in a hospital bed for three months straight, the first three months of school in fact, and it was awful. Granted, kids now aren't in a room, strapped to a bed, in pain, but I understand the sense of isolation and frustration and confusion they might be going through, and in a way, I think I was better off because I had "normal" to look forward to when I got out. I knew it was temporary, and I was where I needed to be, for good reason.
Our kids have no such comfort. They are prisoners of the actions of adults, adults who can give them no assurance the world will look remotely like it used to look on the other side of all this, if there even IS an "other side" of this. We told our kids "The lockdown will end, this is temporary," but our politicians have decided we were liars, and worse, they're blaming us for not being good little citizens and wearing our masks hard enough, or social distancing enough, or voting properly, or whatever else we were supposed to do to deserve to have our rights back.
I don't know what to say to my kids now that won't sound like another lie. I don't want to tell them I have no idea, and I don't want to tell them the truth -- that the people with power over us are using it capriciously, to expand their power, and demoralize us, possibly even to destroy private ownership of any part of the economy, even though that's what I suspect is going on.
What I do know is lockdowns are crushing their hopes and dreams no matter what I say. I'm not sleeping very well, and neither are they. I keep trying to think how much better we have it than many, and how much worse things could be, and indeed have been in the past, but somehow it's not working. It's not comforting me, and it's sure not comforting my kids.
